It can be hard to find good context to underpin theory in lectures. A context-based approach is one where a context is provided, and the underlying theory is teased out (rather than presenting the theory and saying this is where it is applied!). Some nice videos are being made by Prof David Smith at University of York within the medicinal chemistry/biochemistry context. In these, an every day observation is the starting point, and throughout the video, the underlying chemistry is explained. Even I, dear reader, a hardened physical chemist, learned some organic chemistry watching these. My favourite by far was the fascinating video on the chemistry of transplantation. Once a change in taste in music is initiated, these are near perfect resources!
